After graduating, Calum Maclean (MPhys) started working at BSRIA in 2006. Calum has tested many types of equipment and ensemble systems. The equipment included: individual components for example (but not limited to) air conditioner systems, heat pumps, extract fans, fan coils, chilled beams, ceiling diffusers, dry coolers and chillers. The ensemble systems included mock-ups – full size for air movement, thermal comfort, and capacity of installed equipment. Calum has conducted similar testing on site. Calum has conducted post occupancy evaluations (POE), ventilation verification surveys (VVS) and condition surveys in various building types for schemes and to bespoke Client requirements.
Calum has tested to many international and national standards following the many requirements and conditions required by these. Calum has written and reviewed test procedures for various test types to conform with the standards. The standards he has tested to have included heat pumps and other refrigeration systems for capacity and noise levels where applicable.
To conduct testing to new testing methods, or innovative products, he has been involved in the specification, building, and providing the testing in various test locations and types for Clients. He has been involved and managed many different size projects within BSRIA for heat pumps and mock-ups and liaised with Clients throughout these.
